Hi, I know there are all sorts of factors in working out what it is worth to advertise on a site...number of visitors, nature of website etc. My question is how do you (as a webmaster) work out what to charge a prospective advertiser? Is there any general rule of thumb? Thanks, Darren.
depends from site to site.. Category in which the site is that is: entertainment/finance/shopping etc Unique Traffic the site has? whatz the % of traffic from diffeent geo's? etc...etc
Plus you have to bear in mind that you are competing with some ppl, seemingly desperate for money, who advertise at ridiculous prices such as $1 for a sitwide permanent link.
This would depend from site to site, traffic, sector, market etc I would say actually you will make more money from selling a product than from advertising revenue alone Advertising might give you 10% of your total income - so is more of a boost than main income
It also depends on why you are selling the ad - if you are selling the ad to other SEOs who will want the link just for building PageRank, then your price should depend on this. SEOChat.com has a useful tool for determining link price from PR. But if you are selling the ad in the hope for click-thru purposes, then yes I'd take the factors mentioned above into account.
Ok to have an idea, what would you charge for a full banner on a dating site with 1600+uniques a day & PR5?
You got toke in consideration things like PR, traffic, niche, competition, etc to come to your pricing decision.
If you run a highly targeted and populated website with almost minimal competition, then you obviously can charge whatever you want. When my site redesign is complete and google has updated my page rank, I will be sitting down and considering my asking price for advertisements. Basically, you need to consider the sites PR, incoming unique visitors and page views to make an informed decision.
