I still need to get a Christmas gift for my brother. Last year I was in Barnes and Noble and happened to see a really cool design book and that went over well. This year I'm not sure. He wants to be a graphic designer. He's 18. Any suggestions?
Maybe you mustn't give a gift related to design... That is my opinion, for example i am trying to learn new things in web programming and design every day but a gift related to this won't make me so happy. Once again this is only my opinion Cheers ! BTW i like your 25$ a day blog
There is a magazine that designers love, it's called HOW magazine. I am not sure how much it is but it would be a great year long gift.
maybe a Wacom Teblet (if he already dont have one) see http://www.wacom.com its very helpfull to me, fun also..... OR give me Adobe Photoshop CS3 he definatly love that!
I guess I should've mentioned that my budget is definitely under $40 A subscription to How is looking pretty good, I might get that.
Well, if he is attempting to learn how to design graphics on paper then transfer them to digital format as well, you might include a "how to draw" book for a drawing style he is getting into, but hasn't learned yet. If he's into paper drawing as well as digital, a few good pencils and inking pens of various widths and thicknesses can always be of help, as would be blue-lead (makes it easier to get rid of the penciling after scanning in your inked drawing, or so I hear).
I was going to suggest a tablet but seeing as your budget is under $40 maybe a nice big sketchbook/blackbook with some art utensils will do him good
Get him a used tablet from ebay. There's some there for under $40. Even the really old Wacoms are still good.
Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I ended up getting him a coffee cup that has the word 'meticulous' on it with the definition of the word (describes him perfectly) and a Volcom shirt. Thanks, I'm glad you like it. It's too bad I'm failing miserably at it.
