Dear All, I am hoping some of you wp experts will be able to help me. I just bought a new wp site and I see 1000 of comments pending approval. The akismat plugin was not activated and hence none of the spam comments were noticed. My question is generally, how do you determine if the comment is a spam? I can understand if they have irerelevent and stupid language and linkis it will be spam. Any quick and easy way to clean up these comments? So, I can gain something from the value of comments at the same time not losing the site to spammers? Many Thanks
Why Dont you Install the Akismet now and filter the spam comments? this is the most easier way right now.
Yes, Akismet is the fastest and good way to prevent spam. In case you want to delete all comments, you can go to phpMyAdmin, and empty the wp_comments table. It's faster than deleting comments in WP Dashboard.
You can delete them all at once through phpmydmin if you want but if you want to delete only SPAM then you have to go through one by one through your admin panel. And install akismet rightnow to avoid further problem. DON.
you can use comment filtering plugin for your site. it automatically detect the spam and drop in spam box from there you can delete all the spamming article from your blog.
Thank you guys. It was much easier than I thought and ofcourse your pointers helped me. I checked "Check for Spam" button in the comments oage. And Guess what it said all 1000 comments were spam apart from one which I approved.
