Whatever plan you get you need to stick to it and keep repeating it over and over again so you wont get stuck and ask yourself what would you do next so let me tell you my link plan. What I pretty much do is build 4 good quality articles link them back to my site and then have 5 web 2.0 sites linking to each one of those articles so a total of 20 more links and then I submit a article using software to 470 directories to each one of those 20 web 2.0 sites. Next I go and and build a link wheel around those four articles that link directly to your site and I link the four link wheels together. After doing this my keyword is normally ranked and after the keyword is ranked I use a blog network to get it to that number one position. What I just said right here is what no one ever tells you. You can go out and get a $500 SEO course and they wont tell you this. Its just to simple however, a lot of boring long work that is why it is good to try to outsource everything!
