That's true, nothing of such unmetered features turn out to be totally free. When they offers unmetered bandwidth or unmetered space usually they've put the limitation else where such as limited database or limited CPU usage etc. So in general you will not get those unmetered things anyway

i can't say that but it's a CPU limit for sure, you will never use the "unmetered ", "unlimited" resources.

You don't need "unmetered" or "unlimited" bandwidth or over 50 GB bandwidth in general, i have over 1,500 users on my free host and there is no website to use over 15 GB :)

Unmetered or unlimited disk space ? you don't need over 1 - 2 GB because you are not allowed to host mp3 files, video files ( copyright ) , you are not allowed to make a file host or use your account for file storage, If you upload 3 GB or 500 GB must be directly related to your site and it's very hard to have such a big site without using the CPU assigned to you and big sites are on VPS or dedicated not on shared.

Just think about , you see an offer with unmetered, unlimited disk space and bandwidth , you are decided to buy it for 5 $ asked by the seller then you want to upload 250 GB of files , do you think is possible for 5 $ or 10 $ ? No, because nobody will sell a 150 - 200 $ server to you for 5 $.

this is playing with words, unmetered means that you are not limited on the server resources, but if the server runs out of bandwith then it is not the hosting company fault...since it is not unlimited.

ababneh84, There is nothing like unmetered or unlimited space or bandwidth. The words "Unmetered" or "Unlimited" are used by the "CHEAP Overselling Hosts" to attract people who have least knowledge about webhosting, space and bandwidth. The Overselling Hosts give them unlimited space but they put some restrictions that

    for example:
hosting space can't be used for image hosting purpose
no big files can be hosted
    CPU limit 5% etc.
(you will find all the restrictions in the TOS of a host)

If you put all these restrictions on a site then there is no use. A simple blog don't need more than 500MB space and 40GB bandwidth per month. Even less. Than what is the use of Unlimited Bandwidth.

You will often found that these overselling hosts will suspend your site saying you are using more than their allocated CPU limit.

You will find that some hosts are offering 1TB = 1000GB Bandwidth for 5$. I would like to ask them that do they know the value of bandwidth? Most of the dedicated servers comes with around 1.5TB - 2 TB of Bandwidth and cost around $100 per month. Than how than they can provide you 1TB=1000GB Bandwidth for 5$ or less. This is pure cheating.

My personal suggestion: Beware of "Unmetered" or "Unlimited" hosting providers. You can't get any service from them. You will just lose your money. You can't get quality service at cheap rate.

Unlimited hosting is just a way to compete with competitors. There are so many people offering 5TB of space - That they would go for unlimited, rather than 5TBs, even though they would never use 5TB. Hostgator, one of the, if not the biggest host in the world is now offering unlimited disk space - Does it mean they are scamming people?

not only hostgator there are several other gators.....

I dont think a quadcore cpu can support simultaneous data transfer from 5TB....

Most enterprise level servers hold upto 4TB

Look, like man in post before me says...

Unmetered bandwidth is possible, but unlimited disc space?!!! Come one, which HDD can provide you Unlimited space? Tell me one, I will buy that HDD right now!

But, that is classic overselling, anyone can offer Unlimited Space & Traffic to some noobs, who looking only on price which they have to pay. And I bet that 99% providers who offering Unlimited Space & Traffic, have some Dual or Quad Core CPU's, up to 1TB HDD, and up to 5TB Traffic. Who can sell you unlimited space and traffic for 4-5 dollars per month, come on?! If server cost 250-300 USD, where is his calculation? :)

So guys, don't be scammed by that offers, this unlimited offers is good just for beginners and low usage clients, if you have some bigger site, don't even think about it.

This is only my opinion, but I'm sure that many peoples on this forum share opinion with me, and that they know about what I speaking.

    Good luck! :)

I don't think they are scamming people but i ask myself :

Why should i purchase a VPS for 50 $ / month with 500 GB bandwidth or a dedicated server for 150 $ / month with 2000 GB bandwidth when i can get it from X host with 5 $ month or 25 $ year ? all unlimited, all inclusive ? :)

Most websites/domains only take up 200-500MB - No matter what they are offered. If its just a website, and not a huge corporation, then you can offer them anything you like. CPU limits are in place so that prices can be low - You can only use so much space/bandwidth with the right kind of TOS.

it means that there is a limit, just your account is not metered. i dont understand why people confuse unmetered with unlimited. unlimited is impossible but unmetered is possible!
