    Hey,

My apple auto updater just installed some crap which turns out to be a browser called Safari.

My question is, do I leave it installed?

The reason I ask is because I am sat wondering if I am now going to need to code and make sure it works in this crappy Safari browser?

You must be new to Apple. Safari is the default browser for OSX.
It is a crappy browser, and I hardly ever use it, but some online aspects of certain apps won't be able to access the web without it.

Safari isn't a bad browser at all. It's head and shoulders above IE, but lags behind Firefox and Opera, with some holes in the implementation.

Safari's Webkit rendering engine is based on the Konqueror khtml engine from kde. They share code back and forth, so checking in Safari will give you a pretty good idea of the rendering in Konqueror on Linux.

    cheers,

Safari's OK - still prefer Firefox tho (although as each version of FF comes out I start thinking I should be using Safari!) :p

Keep Safari! If you're building web sites, you should use this as a test browser.

I've had a few times where I either did something wrong in the code that I thought was right (I though min-width and max-width on floats counted as "width"... they don't in Opera and Safari but FF and IE will go on happily without a care), or adding something new and missing a closing tag (only Safari acted squirrelly, which sent me back to the validator and whad'ya know, code error!).

It's always good to have another rendering engine checking out your code. The only thing I don't like about Safari is the excessive cuteness on my forms. Turns everything into Gay Pride Day with a pink feather boa on top. I guess Apple thought it looked "Space Age-ey" or something.
