Yahoo likes original content as well as good backlinks. Sometimes a submission to the Yahoo directory can pick things up if that's the only SE that's lagging behind in ranking you.

I feel like Yahoo! is in general more random than the other SEs. I also feel like its results are usually not extremely relevant for the most part.

I am not sure if yahoo really give high density to back links, I have a site with more than 40,000 back link but never found my site on the top 100 for a keyword I am targeting but I am doing good in google and msn.

I guess yahoo still like keyword spamming sites, not very sure of it but that what I think.

I am not having much luck with either Y! or M, but I get a lot of respect from G.

On the other hand when I search Y! and M for my key words the results that turn up are mostly junk, spam, and fake directories.

I keep hoping that when Y! and M clean up their act I'll get more respect from them

Yahoo! and MSN seem to be the best for most of my sites... I'm still trying to figure out what they both like compare to google.

Google puts more weight on backlinks than Yahoo or MSN which put more weight on content (when compared with Google), based on my experience.

I agree with stock_post, I think Yahoo wants substance. Of course, not saying that your website doesn't have substance, but most probably yahoo wants content which are popular in searches.

For example: "e-marketing tips" , can be a hot topic, and thus, yahoo will list more sites which are related to this topic.

    1) substance
    2) topic

yahoo also like it when you use their services, like their site authentication feature. I am seeing a lot of good results since doing it. If only they would expand on it (kind of like webmaster central).........

Go to site explorer, sign up to authenticate your domain and submit any feeds you have and wait about a week. It works.

This doesn't explain my troubles with Y!. My site is 100% content and G loves it. I don't have much in the way of backlinks. I paid to register with Y! in 2000, I have tons of great content, (but I don't have any porn!). Yesterday I got 4500 organic referrals from G, but 306 from y! and 160 from MSN.

Something tells me I am leaving money on the table, but I don't know how to get it.

I just typed in my top 10 keywords and found that I am 1, 2, or 3 on Y! for them. On number 11 I was #1 on G but 29 on Y!. Unfortuately number 11 is my first revenue generating keyword on the list. Also unfortuantely even my top keyword only got 85 hits, I depend on deep searches for most of my traffic. Maybe that's where Y! and M fall down

    best regards
    wiz
