What the heck am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to hit number 1 spot in MSN and I can't understand why I am towards the bottom of the second page when my content, domain, link popularity, keyword density, and everything else is better than the person in the number 1 spot. Just look at the comparison:

    number 1 position:
    Domain: subdomainhere.blogspot.com
    Link Popularity: 140
keyword density for exact keyphrase: 0.73%
Indexed Pages: 2 (Doesn't seam right..)
    Size of site: 48k
    Creation Date: sometime in 2005

    me:
    Domain: exactkeyphrase.com
    Link Popularity: 349
keyword density for exact keyphrase: 1.72%
    Indexed Pages: 44
    Size of site: roughly 32k
Creation Date: August 1 of 2006

Other than the creation date and the size of the site..I can't understand why I am not number 1 in MSN..With the importance of the keyphrase in the URL for MSN's algo I would think this would give me a huge advantage! Any idea's what could be the problem here and what I can do to help get me to the number 1 spot?

And how long is your site active. If it's just new, then just wait a bit and you'll get what you want.

I see you target not that popular keyword. So just a little patience will help you

Could it be that you are looking at the wrong things? There are many things that influence where you rank, and the fact that you chose to focus on the factors you did in your first post imp[ly that maybe you haven't done as much as you can.

It's questionably whether keyword density matters.
Link popularity does not matter is you haven't got the right anchor text in your links.
What about very important things like <title> tags, <hx>s, the anchor text in your own internal links etc?

My site has only been active since the beggining of August when I started it. However, let me say after looking at many of the other site's in top positions I feel that I am putting out much better articles in my blog and am putting much more work into it than most of these other people..

hooperman, what else could I do that I have not mentioned in my first post? Sorry I am still kind of new to SEO and trying to get top ranking's and I would love more idea's and tip's on what I can do. My anchor text is the exact keyphrase on a good 90-95% of my inbound links. Also, I do have the neccessary title tags and <hX> tags, even meta tags. My site is using wordpress which makes it very simple for me to add new content, have bold title's and text..etc..and the anchor text for most of my internal links (going to the different articles in my blog) are all using my triggered keyphrase.

and correct, as GULLIVER said, there is not much competition for this keyphrase..This is why I just can't understand why I am not in number one on msn for the keyphrase. I was #1 in google ever since the site was indexed but recently moved to the number 2 spot after changing my site title around (just doing some experimenting)..So I should go back to #1 in G! after the next crawl. However, MSN is what i'm aiming for right now

Its hard to say for certain without looking at your site, but i am guessing that you are missing something from your on page factors. I have typically gotten the tops spots in MSN within a mont or two for nearly all of my sites just from the on-page factors.

I have outlined the on-page seo techniques i use in my SEO copywriting guide. Perhaps that will help. Or perhaps you would like to give us a link to your site so we can have a look.

Your site is too new and trying to beat a 1 year old site is very hard if your site is only a month old.
Try get quality backlinks and try doing more off-site SEO that on-site. I'm also pretty sure the more links you have the better your rank on MSN.
Would also be nice if Domain name was posted?

I would disagree with this. MSN relies heavily on on-page factors, not links.

i'd agree with bilz msn does favour the on page factors, page title, keywords and description... with a *big* liking for the domain name.

interestingly i was discussing this point with a client of mine the other day and did an msn search... let me see if i can find my results...

air conditioner 1st place airconditioner .com
vacation planner 1st place vacation-planner .net

and then a totally obscure search for train spot interestingly the 1st place position at msn goes to trainspot.web.fc2 .com who don't even have the text appear in the copy

if you are up against another blog (sorry should read it all again) oh you are. well it's worth also remembering that msn loves blogspot ;)

i've heard that some folks have tried this... open a blogspot blog appropriately keyword titled, and set up an automatic redirect

I was thinking about optimizing for Google :p

Yes I can agree to the domain thing... My 1 month old website ranks #3 for the keyword Site Article (28,406,255) in MSN without knowing it... It's because my domain is www.sitearticle.net I guess.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am stunned to see how helpful all of you are and really appriciate it!..My site is www.cpayscom2onlinecasino.com and the keyphrase i am trying to hit number one for is "CPayscom2 Online Casino"..

BILZ, I am checking out your seo copywriting guide right now. If any of you MSN experts can give me a few pointers I will be glad to give you some rep on here and even send you a few NP$ if you have a namepro's account.

Once again thanks for all the help everyone. I would really like to know what on page factors I am missing because I have been using all the seo knowledge I know to try and get in the number one spot here..Yet, still on page 2 and I have actually dropped from the top of page 2 to the bottom :(

As for what loress said, I also thought MSN liked blogspot..so I went and registered cpayscom2onlinecasino.blogspot.com and cpayscom2-online-casino.blogspot.com back at the beg. of august when I registered the domain but I had thought having the actual domain would be way better than a subdomain of blogspot..I have not used them though I only registered them so others couldn't. Would it be worth it to setup a redirect on these blogs or just link to my site from them?

On page items you could improve:

    1. Use the EXACT 3 word keyword you are targeting in your keyword tags.

    2. Same for file names and ALT tags for graphics. (Careful: You still need to make these descriptive so something like "CPayscom2-Online-Casino-Screenshot1.jpg" would be okay

    3. Remove the links to sites that are irrelevant to your sites content.

    Keyword density = OK
    H1 tag = OK

Once again you will probably need to give it more time. In the mean time get more backlinks.

    Good luck.

midwestmerchant, msn also likes when your site is often updated. Manually (irregularly) update it couple of times daily within one month period and you´ll see if it helps.

kaudo thanks for the tip. If I post 1-2 new blogs per day will this make a tremendous increase for me? How long will it take the spider's to index them?

It could be the offpage factors working against you. Just because
you have more links doesn't mean they think your site is better.

The competitor's site may be linked from other related sites with better PR,
relevance and maybe a few that are deemed an authority on that
topic according to the SEs. Also check the keyword anchors for the links going
to the site compared to yours.

Also they might have one way links (since it's a blog people naturally
link to each other) while you may have reciprocal links which have
    less value.

P.S. Did you check if all your pages were indexed by the spiders? If so
that can be a onpage factor you may work on.

thanks for the response and pointer's chris.

Before I had done some investigating and noticed the current leader in msn has most of his links coming from an automated link exchange (indexguy)..I decided to sign up to indexguy myself and do it, as well as two other automated link exchange site's.

As for indexed pages..My site currently has 51 in Google and 159 in MSN compared to the current MSN leader (casinomoney.blogspot) who only seams to show 3 indexed in MSN and 59 in Google..I'm pretty surprised because his site has been around for a while from what I see..yet only 3 pages indexed in MSN? Can that even be right?
