Could some one explain what are paid links and sponsored links?

Why would some people want to report paid links to Google?

If there is no distinguishment between paid links and sponsored links

So.... Do they also report sponsored links?

    Regards,

    1. Both are paid. Its just a different way of calling it by different sites. In some directories you have paid linking where your link would be put up on a relevant category page and for sponsored links they put your links on the left of the page and its displayed on all pages. I guess some sites put a premium to sponsored links.

    2. Cause its against Google's policies. Google ranks sites based on many criteria one being natural link backs from quality sites (googles way of thinking that this site has value cause number of sites are talking about it). So many go for the short cut method to rank their site higher by purchasing links. Completion does like this and reports the same :)

If you get paid to place a link in your site without nofollow tag, then its a paid or sponsored or you can call it anything you want to.

Google do not like paid links as these links are used to artificially improve a sites ranking or PR.

    1 more ...

If you are selling a "link" on a page that offers "PR" without using "no follow"
then you are violating there algo and will be punished.

I'm thinking they are the same. But personally I would think sponsored links would be performance based.

many paid links will get you ranked lower on google, google knows your trying to boost your ranking using paid links and you'll get deducted points in rank for it.
There tons of internet posts about this online.

    In google terms

Paid links a follow and pass on Pr value. Paid links are shown just like any other normal link.(It is for pr value)

Sponsored links are now nofollow or javascript based ..... without passing the pr juice. Sponsored links are clearly mentioned to be sponsored.(It is for Traffic)

Both are paid however have diff words for eye of google
