I'm learning how to use Yahoo SiteExplorer to track my backlinks. Most of you probably know what I mean, but here's a link for those who don't. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/advsearch;_ylt=AhW7K8avCPf8fh.qNF1wMRTbl8kF?p=http%3A%2F%2Fdigitalpoint.com%2F&bwm=i&bwmo=d&bwmf=s I've written a perl script that allows me to import the TSV file (see right side of above page) and analyze the data. It's all working out great, except.... I now see the TSV file contains only the first 1,000 lines of data. Dang! Do any of you clever guys and gals know a way around this? Ideally, I want to download ALL my backlink data, at once if possible, so I can process it in my own application. I can't be the first person to want to make use of the TSV file in this way. Thanks for any suggestions!
Or, does any one know of any solution that will tell me the following: - how many unique domains link to me - a list of those domains - number of backlinks, from domains other than mine, to any page of my site - list of those backlinks The more I think about it, the more it seems this must already exist, and I just need to find it. Thanks again.
Well….I think if you wait for some more time… you can get a lot better suggestions that this…I am out of any ideas for this!!!!
Thanks for your replies guys. Hmm. It looks like everybody would want this data, a full record of all backlinks in one convenient file, but Yahoo limits the output to 1,000 records, and there's nothing that can be done about that. That's my latest guess, and that's all it is, a guess. Does this theory make sense to you? I've read Google Webmaster accounts offer some kind of data output, but I can't get any backlink data out of my Google account. Hmm. So many clever SEO people in the world, who want this data so bad! I'll hold out hope that somebody has figured out how to accomplish this.
Almost tempted to start coding some technique myself, I still can't find a list of the unique domains who link to me! Anyone found out yet?
Well, you could get a list of unique domains by downloading every page of backlinks offered by Yahoo Site Explorer, and then running a script on all those files to pull out unique domains. If you could figure out how to scrape those Site Explorer back link pages with a script, that could work. Doing it manually is just not worth the bother.
