    Tons of things. But to name a few.

    1. Your competitors are building more links than you and adding more unique content.
    2. Your site could have had a server problem.
    3. Just normal up and down variations.

    YES. PR is not just based on back links. It considers various other facts. But if you have a quality site with unique content, which users can not find any ware else, simply your PR will never fall.

    i do some test and find some result...

    i put my droping site link to a few site that have PR 2-5
    and in 8 hours, my site back to # 1 again, in MSN..
    i think PR do effect the SERP even in MSN...

    PR has no effect on SERPs at all. None None None None.

    Agreed. :) The algorithms for the two processes share some similarities, so there can be a loose correlation between the two. But ultimately, your site's PR will not directly affect your ranking in the SERPs one way or another.

    Updated unique content with a few quality backlinks, and some time to age. Good anchor text goes a very long way.

    In my opinion, only by making your site more desireable to potential link partners who value PR. No affect in the SERPs, though...
