What text size do you use in your browser? The reason I posted here is it affects Web Site Design. In IE there are 5 choices (smallest, smaller, medium, larger, largest) One of my web pages reacted very badly to the 'Largest' text size, but looked fine in all the other sizes. I was just wondering what text size people prefer. Me, I use medium.
I friend of mine uses 'largest' font as he uses the highest resolution split between 2 monitors. He was the one who informed me that there was a problem. I have 3 columns on my site and in 'largest' text the middle column went into the last column and was partially hidden by a table. This did not occur in any other text size. It was a bit of a problem to fix.
I use the default which is medium. I think most people just use medium as they never bother to change.
I only shrink/ grow to test what they look like + occasionally to take a screen shot of some good serps so I can show my grandkids one day
Just wondering how many people actually test thier pages for different text sizes. I went to f few sites that look good in 'medium', but look very bad in larger size text. How can you control the text size regardless of what size it picked?
The 'standards' answer is you shouldn't. If someone has their default text size set at larger it's because they prefer/need it that way. If you lock down fonts in IE they'll just leave or more likely they have Firefox and will change your font sizes anyway. Better to allow flexibility in your layout and keep the visitor happy.
You can control the font size but that might cause some problems to your users and accessibility actually.
I used to test my pages at different font size, but I have given up on that. Mainly I check my typography for orphans, widows, rivers, leading, kerning, and letterspacing. In that case I have to have on size in order to have the paragraphs to work. Firefox make the effort all a waste... it has more than 5 levels of zoom in/out. You can ghet it really small, or ridiculesly large.
