I have just created a new automotive site and I am pretty much lost in where to advertise.

Any suggestions other than link exchanges?

Looking at your site, I'd say you shouldn't adverise yet. The front page of your site doesn't have any content and the forum doesn't have any posts.

When visitors come to your forum, why would they be compelled to register at the forum and post? For all they know, they'd register and strike up a conversation with themself. Even with the forum, you must add content there. Make it look busy and put some interesting topics up there that will compel visitors to register and take part in the discussion.

Once you actually have something for your visitors to read/do/publish, then advertise. Otherwise, you'll advertise you site, get visitors and they'll all leave.

Right, I know it doesn't have content. I am actually working on that right now.

I was wondering where I should go to advertise? Is it worth the $$ to advertise on automobile forums or websites?

(After I put a ton of content of course)

I suggest you spend your energy writing a really useful article that speaks to the function of your site and then submitting it as much as you can. I think doing CPM advertising on related sites is risky until you are sure your site (the "product") is truly ready for customers.

You can at least start to build links. Start with directories that deal with you market and will allow you to add a link for free. At least you will start to get your site out there and it will not cost you anything but time.

    Hi,
You should not rely on exchanging links alone. In web marketing, you should be able to try on one or more strategies to gain traffic you want for your site. I suggest that you should try submitting your url to as many sites as possible. Also, try to join forums, which have similar interests as your site offers. This will also give you the exposure you wanted. Try to write articles about your site (products/services) and submit them to different sites that cater to article submission. The people who get to read them will become interested with your site. Gaining traffic takes time. And you have to wait for at least six months to see the actual results.

If you are very interested to promote your site, I think my blog will help you find more ways to promote your new site. Good luck!!! =)

What about pay-per-click advertising to get started right away?

Give it a try on small local newspaper, small ads.
