I've always wondered what stops hackers and other malicious users from totally deleting Wikipedia. They always want to "pwn" sites and from what I understand Wikipedia is user edited. I thought of putting up a wiki type thing on my site but I didn't want it to be taken down by lamers.
Most hackers don't have an incentive to take down Wikipedia. Most hackers are nerds(I mean that in a good way), and respect the online encyclopedia. Wikipedia is probably the last thing a respected hacker would attack. While Wikipedia is user edited, it has its own "moderators" which can take down offensive content and block people from editing certain pages. As an example, if you go to Wikipedia and look up George W. Bush, that page has been locked due to vandalism.
they must be having backups..I mean if someone deletes something, it should get replaced. The overall size of wikipedia is around 20GB. And ya, hackers wont get anything by deleting wiki + it's no fun..
There's no point doing a mass-delete, as they'd just roll back to the last backup, which occures whenever a change is made, or something like that
