What steps you take to do SEO for a new site?

I need to know what steps you take to do seo of site and site's domain is old(about 1 and half yr) but never done seo on that.

can any body help me?

Give me answer with steps ..so i can understand from where i should start.
What things i should note in Competitors site.

Every page must to have a different title use h1, h2, try to use the keyword in your urls, etc

- on-page seo
- simple link building (get a hand-full of links to get you indexed)

 

Hi there,

Try to use static URL's, and I usually arrange everything into directories rather than filenames, for instance;

Instead of using, "http://www.yourname.com/yourfile.html" I use, "http://www.yourname.com/yourdir/".

And it is important to give your directories (and if you do use filenames) relevant titles, this help with search engines finding relevant search results. Also make sure your page titles, META tags (mainly description and keywords) are all relevant - people say META tags are no longer needed...trust me they are.

Here is a small checklist I'll leave you with:

• Titles, META tags, Alt tags have to be relevant to one another
• Don't name filenames or directories too long, a small relevant title is good enough e.g. Terms & Conditions = terms.php
• Never have more than 20 outbound links on any one page
• Try to build strong similar links to your website, if you can help it 1-way links as they seem more natural and search engines will treat it stronger

All the above should help in some way or another with SEO and SERP positioning, although SEO takes time and will never happen over night. But you have to remember that there are thousands of other techniques and if you wish to learn SEO inside out you buy an SEO Book.

I guess we missed one thing. new sites do normally have broken links. Present the search engine with a well connected site.

• Check your rankings and your competitors rankings for these keywords
• Add content to your site related to these keywords
• Add Title and Meta Tags to your website pages using only the most important keywords.

(Do not waste your title space with useless and unimportant keywords, or long over stuffed keyword titles.)

• Get regular links to your website pages with the important keywords as anchor texts.
• Keep track of your website rankings in SERPs.
• Regularly update your site with new content and changes and keep getting more links for your site, with varying anchor texts.

Consider embedding some RSS feeds from blogsearch [dot] google [dot] com. Search for your main keyword and install an RSS feed on your site for those blogs. It will give you some frequent related content.

 

Firstly submit your site to the free web directory...

 

Try regularly improving your site, eg working on once a week. That way you will build up a great content rich site and also avoid the usual trap of doing a lot of work and then forgetting about the progress of the site.
