Should you focus more on your top 2 or 3 and stop posting on the others ?

If you're starting out, it's really best to focus on the top 2 or 3. Having a Facebook and Twitter presence is quite enough if you are still building your brand. Once you have a sizeable following, you can expand to the more "trendy" social networks.

For my niche I found that Reddit was the best, Twitter a distant second, and Facebook worthless (even with paid advertising). However it took me a little while to figure all this out. So my suggestions to you to help you shoot up that learning curve more quickly than I did, are:
    1. Test them all and track which social media site(s) provide you with the most traffic, and focus on those.
    2. Use automation to post on one site and automatically cross-post on as many others as possible with no extra effort (many of the main social media sites will allow you to do this easily at no cost - it's built into their system).

Ultimately it's always better to be omnipresent, i.e. everywhere all the time. Wherever someone goes on the internet there you are. And don't not post on a social media site if you can do it through automation.

depends on what you are promoting and where your target audience is.
I find twitter drives a lot of traffic for most of my projects.

You have been given some good advice above.

I'd like to add, focus is always important. And when you're operating on your own it is even more important.

A great strategy for growth is to:
    • test one method or channel
    • fine tune your process
    • make it work for you
    • document your process and
    • outsource it to a virtual assistant (while keeping on eye on quality of their work)
    • Then you can repeat the same for he next channel and keep adding new channels ... which keep on adding to your traffic
    I hope this helps

I'll say Pinterest, and after that "Guest Blogging!" They both pay well.

Other than that, I try different sources, which also bring quality traffic. Just 15-20 minutes daily on them are enough to keep things running.

However, these days, I'm really interested in the "Paid Advertising" too, and it's definitely paying well. But, for that, you need at least some kind of capital to test things out.

I think twitter and reddit ranked higher as compare to other social networks. If you work actively on these two you will get good website traffic.

I focus on a handful of social media sites, but mostly Twitter for me. I know everyone always mentions the big 2, Twitter and Facebook, but I've had a lot of success with others as well. Reddit is one I use for some of my sites, it has millions of people and a section for just about every topic. It depends on your niche though, but I would think about more than just Twitter and FB.

If you want real targeted traffic to your site then I'd recommend you to be an active user of "Quora".

You should probably focus on your top 2 or 3 would be my general advice but it really depends on your target audience and the content you use. There is no point in spending your time on a social network if your current or potential customers aren't lurking around there. On the other hand, if you are often sharing content like pictures, infographics and articles it doesn't take that much more time to redistribute it on more than 3 networks.

2-3 is actually not that much but it is an amount that you can handle for sure. Besides for some not all social media will work for your business niche. It is best to focus on 2 or 3 social media accounts so it will not be hard to monitor its performance, plus you will be able to experiment on it, without overlooking on the other accounts.

I stick with Twitter, Facebook and Google+ since they seem to be the ones that are the better choices for my needs. I have always gotten the best results from Twitter personally. There are a few others that work well for traffic but for some niche's that are different than mine.

If I had the time I would do some more testing with some of the other social media sites that I either haven't tried or haven't put a good effort in. Time is short for me these days though, so that might not be happening any time soon. ;)

I personally promote my blog on Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn. I get good amount of visitors to my blog which later convert to conversions and subscribers. However i believe that every Social networking sites have the potential to generate traffic, The fact is that how you use them and what strategies you have implemented.
