Hello. I want to know; What should my design goals be? How large should I shoot for for each page (to be downloaded), that will work fast in dsl and above, and good in 56k.... I Guess? I was thinking, maybe 400k....
The coded pages don't actually take up much room. If you want download speeds to be quick it is images and external influences that affect this. Make the images small enough, try to crop them to the size needed rather than uploading a picture 400x300 and then using the code to resize it as this will affect the speed. The largest coded page I have on my sites is 12kb but that pulls in images which affect the download speed. If it is for google/seo purposes I think it should be less than 100kb
Ok. Thanks. I have checked, and most of my pages are 11kb. But is there a total recommended download size for the xhtml page AND the images? So 12kb for the page, and maybe a few hundred for the images....???
I think in my opinion, websites with ton of images and multimedia take a lot longer to load. I would optimize the pictures and make sure they are the right size. Coding doesn't take up much time to process.
