    Hello Guys,

I need your opinion on this.

I am planning to move my site to a new host, and my developer is asking for $100 to move the site to the new host and setup etc.

Do you think that is what it should cost?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Thanks

Ok a couple of questions to get an idea of the scale:

    1. How big is the site? File count, Total size?
    2. What are you currently hosted on? cPanel, Plesk, other
    3. Are you moving your site to a server with the same OS / Control Panel?
    4. Will your new directory structure (i.e /home/yoursite/public_html or c:\inetpub\yoursite) be the same as the old host.
Option 4 - Means is your username and storage locations the same? If not, this means some editing will be required to reconfigure the site

I am not 100% sure of the tech details but here is what I know

    1) It is a decent size ecommerce site with dynamic pages and databse driven.
    2) It is .Net 1.1 on a semi dedicated server with MsSql databse
    3) It is moving to the same OS , not sure about control panel
    4) The directory structure will not change

yeah just for the bit where it is .Net and the database would mean the $100 would be about worth it.

Hosts should do it for free, as its almost automatic. Is you host has any rep.? I'd recommend look for another one which cares the clients more, than money.

last year i move my own site from shared to dedicated server - with all the unexpected configuraiton problems, server-SW version differences and maore setup - a 100$ should be your tipping in addition to the real payment you give him.
he may do hours and days of totally unexpected configuration adjustments, security stuff, etc

for 100 he must really love you !
if you have ANY doubt - then do it ALL on your own to see how much expertise it takes to solve ALL issues until ALL is save and secure up and running ...

I agree, many hosts move sites for new customers. my host moved as many as 15 sites for me - most are database driven sites.

did you ask you host about it?

As already said, those who care about their customers, will do that for free.

I actually bought the hosting on that condition - "shift my sites or I will find a new host."

I don't really have a fast internet connection - only 192 Kbps. Thus it is not possible for me to download and upload large sites.

100$ is expensive. try using platinumemanagement team. They are just 29$ per month fix. I've asked before and they said YEP, that's include migration price.
