Great way to learn is to download some openwebdesign or oswd templates ... open them in editor and learn ... tweak and learn ... it is so easy to just look and study code .. trial and error principe

I recommend xhtml and css first. Try to use CSS for all design stuff not just for fonts and colors. xhtml should be used just to contain data and css describe how it should be presented. Use xhtmls and css validator to check if your code has a basic quality. And... Have fun!

exactly ... and what is the best way to lear .... just think how japanese were doing stuff ..... they looked and studied ... and then they suddenly were making a lot better things than anyobody else :)

so go get some free templates from oswd and study, try and fall .... but in the end you will have design like no other :)
