My brand new site (5 days old) is doing quite good at google. At the moment in top 20 for most of the keywords with (2-5 million competition). I get quite a bit of traffic as well. So what shall i do in terms of backlinks? At the moment i only have 2. Should i just leave it as it is for a bit in order to avoid the sandbox or slowly start adding more backlinks? I think i can spare 5K or so of co-op weight for it as well. Need some advice here. Its just i never had a site rank so well from the start, therefore i dont have any personal experience. Thanks!
Google does rank new URL's well for a few days or weeks and then the sandbox begins. One morning you will wake up and everything will be gone and will stay gone for up to a year. Not real sure that backlinks will help that much. I believe that Google looks at backlinks in a longevity fashion more so than the actual number. In other words, if you build good links to your site today, Google may not even count them until they stay on the referring sites at lease six (6) months. This is why the sandbox lasts so long, in my opinion.
Links do count and you will even get PR its just in the sandbox you dont get any results. It seems like the more competitive your keywords are the longer you spend in the sandbox. I think i might start developing some links slowly and see how it goes. Thanks!
Yeah I know one "web development" site that skyrocketed right from the start, but after a few weeks got kicked to nowhere. it took around 9 months to put it on top again. Sandbox is no joke for sure... btw, mightyp, can we take a look at your site and words it comes top10?
