What should i do?

ok. Im VERY new to the whole idea of online marketing and SEO. My website was created before i even considered optimizing it. For this reason, i have decided i want to recode the whole site, and fix a few things up, so things work out better in the long run.

As mentioned before, i am very new to this all. Thats why i made this post :) Id very much appreciate it if people could please suggest things i should consider when re-creating my site. Im really looking for the technical side of things at the moment, like the structure of the site etc. Id like suggestions on what i should do, and things that i should steer clear from.

At the moment, my main aim is to build my site with static URLs. Currently, there are alot of dynamic urls throughout the site, and one of the big things ive read, is that static > dynamic in terms of SEO.

So yea. Post away :) No matter how basic your idea may be, please dont hesitate to post. I mentioned it twice before, and ill mention it again. I am an amateur, and this all a learning experience for me :p

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan.

PS. A few questions i wouldnt mind being answered along the way:

-Id much prefer to build my site using php's file functions, rather than use a database. Is this a good or a bad idea...or has it no impact at all?

    -Is valid CSS/HTML essential?

-Should even my deepest pages have their own directory eg. domain.com/dir1/dir2/page/ or should it be like domain.com/dir1/dir2/page.php?

Not really a requirement as long as your website pages are seo friendly. SEO friendly means every pages of your site are easy to crawl by search engines.

it doesn't matter if you have static or dynamic. the most important thing is that your static or dynamic pages are crawlable/indexable.

Basically it depends on the web page creator you are using to design your HTML pages, page creators building messy html/javascript codes will cause you some trouble. Just use a decent HTML editor like FrontPage or DreamWeaver ( if you're not using those already )

There is not any difference in terms of SEO but IMO you should definitely go with PHP. That way your site will load faster and won't depend on your server's database being down or not.

If you can browse your site in different browsers (mainly IE and FF), you are fine. Don't worry if the html validator gives you problems.
Here: check http://www.ibm.com/us/ for html errors. bunch of them are found (so IBM's website is done poorly??)

I have no idea what you mean? Is your website a directory?
