Hello fellow members, I started my website on January 2015. When I first started building the website I wanted to build something unique something fun that no other website is doing. So I thought why not categorize the pictures and the user can browse the website according to categories. I have asked a lot of people to review the website and they have liked the idea. They say I would rather see pictures from categories rather than users. And to further more create a unique experience I made the user be able to follow categories and or users. I have sent traffic to my website using AdWrods to test how users browse the website and I have found out that they do like browsing categories. But to be honest I don't like the idea, and I don't like the website. I want to sell it because sometimes I think that I am wasting my time. But I also don't want to sell it because I want to experience how a website grows and make money, and I have put to much effort into the website. Here is the website URL: http://www.picturepunches.com/ I want to make the website simple and have great content and unique content. The problem is that All the pictures on the website is from other websites. And I know that you have to have great content to be able to offer something different and unique. Sometimes I feel websites like www.eatliver.com/ are more fun than my website. The simplicity and funny content makes the website a success. So what would you like to see in a funny pictures website? Do you think eatliver.com is more fun than picturepunches.com? What would you do if you were the owner of my website? Do you have any ideas that can make the website more fun? Thank you all, Farris
Seriously? Your unique point of difference was "Categories". Sorry, but when you are competing with 9gag etc you really have to do better than that. The site looks nice, however most of the jokes are either from other sites or seriously lame. To succeed at this game you need to be able to generate fresh content at an eye-watering pace. You aren't close if this has been running since January. I'd try and sell it if you aren't committed to the site.
Thank you for your honest reply. I know that the categories idea was no good, but it's hard to come up with something that is interesting. what is better ... 1. to copy content from the internet and categorize it so it is easier to browse. 2. to create 1 unique picture each day that is very funny. The first one is going to bring a lot of traffic, but the content will be poor. The second one will have less traffic but quality content
Good questions - and you need to find an template for an business plan (many online) and use it for this site because it is a business. You need to work out if you have the time and talent to make it work, and if it will generate the revenue to reward you for that time and effort.
Website with jokes almost impossible to monetise unless you have huge traffic. I suggest you do not spend your time and money on useless things
Hey, you said you don't like your site, but you dont want to get rid of it because you want to experience success. I have some advice for you. Why not go ahead and create another website, one that YOU like. It won't hurt for you to experiment with a couple of different ideas on different domains. Plus, like Sarah said, you have some very stiff competition, so you're going to have to work hard in a niche like that. Honestly, I could go to icanhazcheezburger and waste hours, and not need any other "pix" sites to get my fill of it. So, IF you DO have some different ideas for a successful website, why not go ahead and give it a try.
I always wanted a website with funny "demotivational posters" and fail pictures and stupid criminal news stories. If you are witty, you can make some demotivational and fail pictures that people will like and will link to (everybody can find humor in them). And stupid criminal stories, people will search for other information about criminals sometimes and you can get some search engine traffic that way. I looked at that 9gag website and honestly, I cannot understand the appeal of it. An animated gif of a waffle falling over followed with imagery of a large explosion. Sorry, but that sucks. And this "real job application" (9gag.com/gag/a5KzedV?ref=fsidebar") that is old, old, old, old. And it is not real. I remember seeing things similar to that back in the 1980s when I was a kid. And with every stupid picture or whatever, they have hundreds of comments which are equally vapid. I think quality is better than quantity. If you have a sense of humor and wit, you can do better than 9gag.
