What should I be charging for a 125x125 sitewide banner on a site that receives 1200 UV's per day 118,000 monthly page views. It will appear on about 40 pages in an upper right hand side bar. I'm new to selling advertising, and I don't want to price myself out of the ballpark. Thanks.
I'm an advertiser, so all I can tell you is what I would pay. It all depends on what the site looks like, its bounce rate, the size of the ad, how many other ads are on that page, and whatnot, but on average, maybe, MAYBE 1% of a site's visitors clicks on ads, if not half that. So for 1,200 daily hits, maybe around 10 will click on my ad. Now, maybe, MAYBE 1% going to my site will buy. So, in order to make 1 sale, at least 100 has to go there. That's 10 days of traffic. 3 sales a month. I will only make, maybe, $90 a month. Of course this is all a rough estimate, but you get me here. I wouldn't advertise on your site anyway because you just don't have enough traffic, but if I did, I couldn't give you any more than, say, $45 a month, if that.
Yeah, I think you should just test it out. Put up an affiliate link. Maybe you can make some money. If you have already had this type of advertising up before, then you should know how many clicks an advertiser could expect. I would say each click is worth no less than 5-10 cents. You could charge more if you think it is worth a bit more than that.
