We had a discussion at work yesterday that I thought would bring up some interesting points here. The question asked was "What constitutes an equality civil right?" One of the best responses I heard at work was that an equality civil right is when someone's right as a US Citizen is taken away because of something he/she cannot change. Giving them the right would not take away the rights of others. ie A black person cannot change the fact that he is black (except for Michael Jackson) and a woman cannot change the fact that she is a woman, but letting them vote really did not hurt the white man's civil right.
