What do you think should be the minimum search volume for a KW phrase that will make you think that it will be worth targeting for??

I have seen people say that search volumes of 500/month are viable..some say 1000/month..

    what do you reckon?

I would not suggest you to try to optimize for a keyword that has less than 1000 searches a month.

IMO, if you are a newbie then its best to write articles where you will get less search results. so your blog will get listed in first few easily after some time and you will start getting visitors. Once you start getting visitor then write for keyword have more visits, because there will be much more listing and articles in that category.

agree that is a great tipe, articles are one of the fastest way to rank on google, for long tail keywords.

The best thing about long-tailed keywords is that you are using many keyword phases in a single long-tailed keywords, eg "How to lose weight", includes lose weight. So while "how to lose weight" may have low traffic, "lose weight" will definitely have higher traffic.
It's best to have a major keyword and a minor keyword

I always say that targeting keywords with less than 500 visitors each month is bad. Between 1000-2000 is perfect.

It depends on how much time you have to promote your website!

If you have plenty of time to optimise your website, build links, write articles etc, then by all means attack the more competitive keywords and phrases.

If, however, you only want to do the basics then target the less competitive keyword searches. In the latter example I wouldn't have a problem picking phrases with <500 searches per month.

I would, however, make sure that people are visiting your website under these terms once you get ranked well.

Keyword statistics don't always give an accurate impression of traffic so you need to continually review and adjust your keywords to see what works best.

Depends on how much in return you are expecting..if you are targeting some heavily realted keyword for a CPS site..than even 500 per month is good..but if you are trying to get something from ad revenue than 5k/month is good..
so it depends on your needs

MIN. 100 day, actually right now i am shooting for 200/day. (Global).
How else would you want to make sales?

500/month is about 17 searches day. Now take conversion rates/CTR etc. into account...

Well unfortunately you cant section out search volume on its own....

You have to know what the competition level is for your keyword as well.

    For example.

You find a keyword with 2000 searches a month, great but that keyword could have 2 million competing pages. Which will take lots of hard work to rank.

    SO

the trick is to find as high searched keywords for as low competition as possible.

I would sugget you start with these numbers. 500-1000 searches a month and less than 23000 competing pages.

To find competing pages use "" around your keyword in google then check out the page count top right
