Hii everyone....I am quite new into this.....I have created a blog....and I would like to put adsense on it mayb later on.....But I just cant figure out what should the blog be about.....whether on a specific topic or on anything or everything i like......pl advice. Which one these earns more or gets more traffic - a blog on a specific topic or a blog without any specific focussed topic like on everything or just anything you are familiar with and interested in,... and you put it on so as to try to put high paying keywords and earn more?? Does anyone here have a blog WITHOUT any specific topic and still earns good enough??? Is it a good way ????
If you're not already famous, you better focus on one topic and if you have 2 favorite topics, you'd better create 2 focused blogs. If you can do something original you can have a lot of traffic, for example recently one person in Canada ate dry monkey food for one week as an experiment and used youtube.com to publish a video everyday on his site/blog during the experiment. Had lots of traffic but doesn't use AdSense, too bad I'm sure there're lots of pet food advertizers on Adwords
I would suggest you to go for something that interest you, at least you'll get quality content and will probably earn you more in the long run
That was your first mistake. You should have figured out what your blog was going be about before you "created" it. And because your entire purpose is to make a buck, you will never succeed, for you will never persevere during the dry times (the first month, first two months, and sometimes the first half year), and will simply flee in search of newer, easier get rich quick schemes when your MFA blog doesn't make you the millions you were fantasizing about. If you want to really do this right, there are ways. Scrap whatever blog you've created and start over.
Dont listen to discouraging comments. I can basically tell you that your content should be something that you like so that it's a hobby and not a job. The best money is made with passion.
I don't think it's really nessasary to be passionate about the subject or topic to create a good, linkable and useful site. I think as long as you are passionate and take pride in your site and making it the best you possibly can with the abilities and skills you have, it can become a great resource. I wouldn't expect anything in the first year and would try to view any earnings as a bonus which should be ploughed right back in to it. How can you fail if you persist and sit it out for the engines? Pick a very broad topic and cover everything in it and all that's related to it as an on-going process. Take pride in the site (this means the first thing your users see is content - not AdSense - they can see those adverts once they have skimmed over or read your content!) Picking the topic is what you should research - if you struggle at this point, you need to put more welly in to your efforts. I say it like I'm trying to keep my own faith during one of my best sites sandbox/waiting period. Pete
Well here are a couple of tips from a guy who has researched blogging for about 4 months now before starting his own blog (me ): 1. Working on something mainly for money does not make you happier in the long run, but working working on something that you like and makes you happy can generate revenue because the reader can feel your passion. It's important to pick a topic of interest because: 1. researching for content will be something you find fun to do, 2. it will be easier for you to become an expert on the topic, 3. in the end, it will be fun. 2. General content blogs are ok, but they just dont work, expecially for invidual bloggers. What you want to achieve is good readership, and for that you have to provide something of value to your readers. I have no general content blogs in my feed reader... Why? Because they in most cases don't provide value, and become filters of other peoples content. In the short run there's nothing wrong with that, but in the long run, you need to provide value to your readers. 3. Content is king... A passionate author will always create better content then one that is after only profit. Its a fact. No keywords or SEO will be as good for a blog as quality content. 4. Think of the topics you would write about. Are there really that many or just a few? You can always make a few topic-specific blogs, but be sure not to launch them all at the same time. Give each blog time to grow. 5. To achieve revenue, it will take at least 9 months if you really put your heart into it. When readers find value in your content, you will achieve better traffic and your CPR will improve. 6. Topic-specific blogs are also better for generating profit. Why? Because when a reader who wishes to read about a specific topic comes to a blog on that topic there is a better chance of him clicking an ad than there is for a reader coming to a general topic blog which has lots of ads on various topics - so there's a lesser chance of the reader clicking an ad.
@Pinoy: Well, then find an a good author who want to write for the web but doesnt know anything about blogs, internet marketing, promotion and so on and form a partnership and split the profits...
You guys are so naive. You keep telling him to "do something you're passionate about" but you fail to read between the lines. "idreamofgenee" is purely after the buck. That's his passion. And he'll never succeed because he has no other goal when it comes to site building beyond making a dollar. He'll give up after the first week when he's not rolling in the dough. I've seen it a thousand times. You can spot these noobs with dreams of Adsense fortunes dancing in their eyes a mile away.
jackburton2006 is making a good point regarding this, its not a case of pouring water on anyones fire or anything, rather more a case of fore warning someone of the hard work ahead. I would say its better to have an idea of what your blog is to be based on before creating it, with effort and commitment you can make things work. Best of luck to you, well to anyone actually, i know the struggles myself.
Interesting debate. I don't think anyone can tell a person what to write about. For me, I ran a personal blog for years. I loved the idea that my loved ones could read the funny parts of my mind and whilst hits were far, FAR from spectacular, I enjoyed it because I got to write about what I enjoyed - my take on the world. Then about 7-8 months ago, I started a blog about my football club (www.joysandsorrows.co.uk) Slowly but surely, it began to get hits. I don't know how since I never planned it and I didn't know the first thing about promoting a site or SEO or any of that. It just happened. Over the last 3 months or so I've deliberately put effort into monetizing it and trying to at least cover my hosting fees. I've done that successfully but mainly I realise that I'll not make money if the content takes a dive. Whenever people come across my blog they tend to say that I write with passion and that they 'get' where I'm coming from. That's the biggest buzz to me. Money is nice but in my book, you're never going to make money without first getting that buzz that you get when someone tells you that your site has made an impression on them. The fact that I have around 200 posts but 500 comments makes me smile more than the $$$ [Did have more posts but my hosts crashed and lost all the back-ups so I had to start again - GRRR!)
Affers, sorry about the relegation mate. At least Steve Bruce stayed on and with the players you've got it should only be one season in the Championship
i think writing about different programs is ideal. Just write a bunch of reviews of different programs on the web, include your affiliate link and images throughout the blog. Optimize with keywords and place adsense. The topic makes no difference, you want to be giving people good and free information that they may be interested. Go to google, type in some related keywords, then write a blog about the sites that came up and what you can do for each. By swtiching up the keywords you will optimize differently and get a nice variation in your adsense ads. Use the correct keywords and you can pull a dollar or more per click. write about cancer treatment and research, or personal injury lawyers from a city/state, or DWI lawyer, There are so many expensive keywords to write about that can pull some nice ad cash.
Most people didn't want Bruce to stay, mate. But thanks for the kind words. I can only assume that you think we'll stay where we are considering we're interested in a couple of Spurs players!
You know, I set up a blog a year and a half ago. It took me 18 months to finally discover what I could blog about. After I got http://mollysbrother.blogspot.com (Molly's Brother On A Budget) rolling (which is a personal finance blog for beginners), I recently started http://thinkromance.blogspot.com which helps guys in the romance department.
Well, I don't really understand your point... He asked about blogging and I answered with what I think is important. I don't care if he uses the information or not, although I think I made some good points. I do hope that someone with some passion sees this topic and the stuff we all have written about and puts it into practice.
