What server/host do i need for my site with heavy traffic

Hello, i did not know where to ask this question as i did not find a "hosting" category..... * moderator can place this in the right section if it is the wrong section.

Well, I am currently working on an entertainment site and would like to know what hosting or server service should i use.

The site is somewhat like a uberguy.com or holytaco.com site where i will be linking to youtube, break, etc for my videos instead of users uploading their videos.

I noticed some of these sites like uberguy have over 300.000 unique visitors a month and they mention something about $20/month for server/hosting fees...but where and who?what place is the best? i tried searching google but it is spammed with affliliate marketers and their "review" sites.

The site will be based on wordpress and i would like to start with a good server that can handle the load before hand instead of going over bandwidth and transferring later on. I could also transfer my other sites that dont take much bandwidth and share the server as well....saving me some money rather than having multiple shared hosting with different hosts.

Can someone point me in the right direction? i WOULD BE HAPPY TO USE YOUR AFFILIATE LINK if you are of help with my questions

also i know bluehost has an "unlimited plan" but have heard you can get your site shut down if you have heavy traffic and i do not want to risk that....plus it is shared hosting.

it would be great where i can start on a server and if i need more bandwidth, i can just purchase more or "extend" bandwidth that way i do not have to transfer the files and the whole site.

my main concern is throwing the site on a shared host and needing more bandwidth later on..thus the headaches in transferring everything...would like to prepare for the worse i guess.

    Thanks !

If you are not hosting the videos and only embedding them in your site then you don't have to worry about the bandwidth from the videos. But what kind of script are you going to use? If you are anticipating 300,000 uniques/month on a site with a script that hogs resources you should consider a VPS. Another option is to go with a host that allows for an easy upgrade from shared to VPS to Dedicated as your site grows like HostICan or HostGator. I think your issue may not be bandwidth but the percentage of resources you use on a shared server.

I will be using wordpress for the time being. Yeah thats what i wanted to know if there were any hosts that allows for easy upgrade to save the headaches later on. I already have a shared hosting plan (baby plan on hostgator) so i will throw it onto that since that plan is "unlimited" from what i see. And if anything, i will upgrade!

thanks micksss....do you have a affiliate id or a page where i can click onto for hostgator so you can earn your affiliate share? my hosting is expiring soon with hostgator and i will renew through your link.

    thanks again!

Do remember that caching can drasticly decrease the load on server on high volume sites.

Search cache + your script (wordpress, joomla...) or "programing language" (php, asp, mysql...)

My recommendation is to start out small. I'm not saying it is impossible, but more than likely your website will take quite a bit of time to reach the level of others multimedia websites. I'm not sure if you are intending on hosting the content, etc. If you are, you might look at serverbeach.com. It is probably the cheapest option for a dedicated server that will handle quite a bit of traffic and has lots of resources available. Only buy what you think you will use though. You can always upgrade.

Any 'ol hosting service will do. You do not need anything special. I use CrystalTech.com. They are in the U.S., they are cheap, and they have good phone support, so....

I use www.hostmonster.com and I get unlimited storage though the customer care sucks. But check them out.

    i use web hosting buzz.

the bandwidth is pretty good and customer care is pretty good, i only had one problem with them.

but you cannot run cache applications, proxies, adult sites, or save ur files as storage, other than that, they have full descriptions of what you can do and you can't

and once you become the member, you will have more offers after..

    try

"budgethosting" "summertime" "whreviews" "webhostingbuzz" "2009" for more discount. Some of them only work on reseller accounts though.. I am not so sure i can write it here, but hope admins are okay with it.

good luck with choosing the host.

normally i use findmyhosting.com hostindex.com etc etc. there are many hosting reviews, it's just important which ones are unbiased and usable for several years with fantastic price.

    hope that helps
