What server do I need?

Hopefully someone can advise me with this. I'm planning to get a dedicated server as down time is costing me too much money.

On a peak day, my 4 sites between them will have 50k uniques, and 100k page loads. I need a server that can cope with this. I've already decided what company I want to go with, and this is what they offer:

    Small Server
    CPU: AMD 800Mhz
    RAM: 128Mb
    HD: 20Gb 7200rpm
    Bandwidth: 512Kbps Burstable Unmetered
    Monthly Quota: Unlimited / Unmetered
    IPs: 1
    OS: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, others
Support: 24/7 premium via Email + Telephone

    Mid Server
    CPU: Intel 1.7Ghz
    RAM: 256Mb
    HD: 40Gb 7200rpm
    Bandwidth: 768Kbps Burstable Unmetered
    Monthly Quota: Unlimited / Unmetered
    IPs: 2
    OS: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD
Support: 24/7 premium via Email + Telephone

    Large Server
    CPU: Intel 2.4Ghz
    RAM: 512Mb (upgradable to 1Gb)
    HD: 80Gb 7200rpm
    Bandwidth: 1.5Mbps Burstable Unmetered
    Monthly Quota: Unlimited / Unmetered
    IPs: 4
    OS: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD
Support: 24/7 premium via Email + Telephone

    Extreme Server
    CPU: Intel 3.2Ghz
    RAM: 1024Mb
    HD: 160Gb 7200rpm
    Bandwidth: 1.5Mbps Burstable Unmetered
    Monthly Quota: Unlimited / Unmetered
    IPs: 8
    OS: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD
Support: 24/7 premium via Email + Telephone
(* upgradeable to 2Gb RAM and 2*300Gb HDs)

    Extreme Dual Server
CPU: Intel Dual CPU 2.8Ghz Core
    RAM: 2048Mb DDR2
    HD: 2*160Gb 7200rpm RAID 1
    Bandwidth: 2Mbps Burstable Unmetered
    Monthly Quota: Unlimited / Unmetered
    IPs: 8
    OS: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD
Support: 24/7 premium via Email + Telephone
(* upgradeable to 4Gb RAM and 3*300Gb HDs)

THe smallest server would be more than enough storage wise, my sites total less than 1gb. But I'm assuming the bandwidth, cpu etc wouldnt be enough (though I have no idea). Anyone any suggestions? I've never used dedicated hosting before. I was going to ask the hosting company but figured they will just try and get me to take the more expensive packages. Any help will be great.

    Thanks

Don't use servers Bandwidth: 1.5Mbps Burstable Unmetered.
Is better to use Metered (ex. 500 GB/month)

it's best to go with something like 2tb of bw on a 10mbit pipe, 100mbit bustable.

I've been using LiquidWeb for over a year and they've been great to me.

You need something that can handle the load and plenty of bandwidth.

We get 2tb of bandwidth every month, but we're only using around 200gb right now.

I need to host in Hong Kong so its hugely limiting my choice. Looking at http://worria.com/en/hong-kong-server.shtml now, but I'd used Zentek in the past so was going to stick with them, if unmetered is a bad idea I'll look elsewhere.

    Thanks

unmetered can work just fine, but you need a large enough pipe. 512kbps is not going to be nearly enough. you need at least a 10mbit pipe to support that kind of traffic.

Bandwidth in Hongkong is expensive. If you want to stay in Hongkong, prepare your budget. Otherwise, you can try with a vendor providing service in US West coast. The network performance from Hongkong is good enough.

With un-metered, you would be better to start at 10mbps. Lower can limit your performance. As mentioned, going with GB limitation on 100mbps line is even better.

With your stats, 50K per day is not a big number. I guess a VPS with 512MB RAM can handle well your sites. Going with VPS, you will even have some more benefit
    - using newer hardware (reduce the chance of old-failed hardware)
    - pay less
    - can reload OS without extra payment, if you did something wrong with your VPS.

Let us know if you want to go that route

Am I right to assume you are in Vietnam? Please pm me your msn or yahoo handles, I'd like to discuss this with you. USA host isnt an option for this project.

    thanks
