What Sells In Newspaper Classifieds? Years ago I put out ads for a work at home opportunity in a Montreal newspaper with 12,000 issues. I made a few sales, enough to cover the cost of the ad and then some. My theory is that newspaper and magazine ads do best when the product has mass appeal. Please share your thoughts.
Think of the local newspaper classifieds as you would of craigslist or ebay. Particularly craigslist. There's this article I found that shares what sells best on craigslist: http://recraigslist.com/2013/03/10-best-things-to-buy-and-sell-on-craigslist/ Basically, the idea is whatever sells best on a popular online classifieds will probably sell good in a newspaper classifieds.
I don't have much experience there but I hear mostly old people read newspapers now so I would think something that appeals to an older crowd might be worth a shot.
I used to sell a lot of properties using newspaper ads in 2002. I think something about every day life, like oil and stuff that is on sale.
Well I'm going to start placing ads promoting my service. I will come back and let you know how it went.
Properties (to let/for sale), second hand furniture (buy/sell), trade ads (plumbers/electricians/garden maintenance), job vacancies. In effect products and services that are of local interest. The cost of advertising in a local (weekly) paper is relatively low. National print advertising is expensive and would be more suitable if geographical location for the product or service is not an issue.
