For a long, long time now when I submit a URL I have only been submitting to Google, MSN, Yahoo and occasionally DMOZ. Just wondering if there are any other search engines that I should include in my short list. I've seen sites where you can submit to a zillion "search engines" but I always assume they are junk... a complete waste of time. Am I right or am I missing out?
I don't submit to any "search engine". DMOZ isn't a search engine, it's a directory. No search engine you have to submit to, to be indexed, is of any value. The important ones will find you with even one decent link to your site.
How did you submit to ASK? i tried submitting to their site but i couldn't find anywhere on their site to submit to. They say that they will index your site automatically but they still haven't done my site. It says that here, http://sp.uk.ask.com/en/docs/about/webmasters.shtml#18
True, DMOZ isn't a search engine... just thought it was worthy of mentioning. And yes, Ask... I forgot about them. I've noticed that I seem to get about as much traffic from MSN as I do Google. How to submit to Ask? I have no idea. I even searched ask with "How do I submit a URL to ask" and up comes a bunch of junk sites. I bet you have to pay them.
We don't submit our sites to the search engines. The key is to get decent incoming links to your site and let the search engines find your site and index it. Once your site is indexed by the top SEs then don't bother about the smaller ones.
I agree with most above... I usually don't submit, I build it and they will come (to coin field of dreams haha)
I use IBP 8 (although I think there is a new version). Chances are if you're listed in the top three you'll get listed in the others. The DMOZ link will help too.
i normally use sites that submit my site in top 100 search engines etc ... you can search for " submit website free" you will find lot of such websites ...
Google, Yahoo and MSN are the keys and it is good to submit to them especially if you do not have incoming links from sites that are often visited by these search engines. DMOZ recently lacks editors and it is almost impossible to get listed in some of the directories.
