I do not exactly remember the date, but it was only Yahoo. Later on with the invent of Google, it proved to be the ultimate choice.

Yahoo and Ask, there on there way back now I think (I hear, MS is taking over yahoo + Reuters and Ask is generally on the way back).

I've got into the habit of using google, even though it gives poor results (For example pointing me to out of date sites and stuff i have to sign up to get what i want). I'm trying to use Winzy (So far i've got 2 iTunes and Amazon Vouchers and it API's with Ask).

    Infoseek
    Altavista
    Hotbot

were my favourites in the early to mid 90s

but I also used Lycos and WebCrawler

in those days everyone used lots of search engines, and traffic was spread around many of them.

Then I switched to Google (Backrub) and AllTheWeb.

AllTheWeb was awesome - my favourite engine of all time.
But their marketing sucked, and not enough people used it.

Google got bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. And I got lazy (like everyone else). I stopped looking at other engines and just Googled for a few years.

I still use Google a lot, but it's purely for SEO work. If I'm looking for something myself, or want to do some real research, I look elsewhere.

Hakia is my favourite search tool right now - the best thing thing since sliced bread. :D

Yahoo wasn't a search engine, of course. ;)

It's funny now, to think that back then, a lot of people used directories to find stuff.

AltaVista. I still actually prefer AltaVista's video search - Google Video should soon catch up, though.
