what search engine alexa based on?

Personally I find alexa a waste of time. The only time it is useful is if you want to sell a website and then perhaps having it in writing that your site in in the top 100,000 may be a good thing.

 

I think it is the combination with other search engines like yahoo, bing, etc.

 

I was told by a person in the Public Relations industry that they use Alex rankings to decide where to advertise. May not be right or fair but there you have it.

 

In my opinion,Alexa doesn't base on any search engines.

 

Do anyone here determine rank based on alexa only or also check from other sources?

 

Alexa ranking based on visitors and differ from search engine's criteria. The more important thing is that if you want good rank you should install alexa toolbar on your browser & widget on your website.

 

All are confusing ??
