I'm not actually asking that you reply and tell the world your religious inclinations (you can PM me if you really want). I'm just curious to see how many people are willing to disclose their beliefs, and how many are too sensitive about it...

Frankcow, I'm not sure, but he might be pointing out that you have a flawed set of categories - not that you have missed religions, per se. For example, "Mormom" is not separate and apart from "Christian." You have lumped them in with scientologists, for reasons unknown to me.

It isn't clear from your poll what information you're after. If you are after associating a strength of belief with a given religion, you may want to include a weak/strong indicator for each of the religions below. If you only want to discern the patterns of belief among DP members, why don't you consider going with "the world's great religions," and, additionally, allow for folks like myself that find religion the root of all evil, em, sorry, that are declared atheists?

e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, religious-other, and atheist/agnostic?

At any rate, I agree with MatthewN - your poll is confused as it stands now.

'Agnostics' lumped in with Athiests...yuck. Two absolutely different idealogies. Athiests are just as mystical as TRUE believers, in that they rely on the faith of their beliefs to guide their views. No rational person says 'I know there isn't a god' because there's no proof, he's just less likely to say, 'I knows the universe,' because his knowledge is limited. This coming from a former athiest...I was a child, though, so you can't blame me.

I TRY to pracice the words of Christ, but generally speaking I'm a doubting Thomas. Commonly referred to as an agnostic. But essentially, I truely wish there is a god.

Yeah often times atheists shun agnostics as cowards for not being able to make up their minds or "pick a side". In fact some atheists are just as much against agnostics as they are theists.

I know this isn't always true, but it seems that the athiest movement is basically an anti-christian movement.

I wholeheartedly agree with much of what is said above regarding "atheism," in that atheists can often wear their creed on their sleeve as religiously as the most devout of theists, of whatever stripe - and I find it repugnantly evangelistic.

Speaking only personally, I hold to atheism as Webster's defines it, "a disbelief in the existence of a deity." I do not preach it. I see the world empirically and I conclude, with all that is available to me, there is nothing in the world but what we make of it, and I dismiss the notion of god, in whatever form. I believe, with Voltaire, that there was a time when "if god didn't exist, it would be necessary for man to invent him." But I think that time has passed; I think it's time to move on, and shoulder our global destiny alone - as we are, in my opinion, utterly alone. I could care less whether I am called an agnostic, or atheist; and I could care less how others call themselves.

I only object when someone else's moral view is made law, with real consequences.

Very true. Strict theists are often faulted for raising their children to follow the same beliefs - essentially accusing them on not allowing the child to decide for themselves. I would say that atheists are often equally culpable of this mind moulding.

Well, a lot of DP'ers already know my beliefs due to my comments in this category. However, I am interested to see what others believe in too! It's quite OK to talk about these things. It's what sets matters straight, the discussions regarding the Bible and God.

To be perfectly honest I don't believe that too many matters are set very straight in a public forum, with everyone throwing their opinions in at random. I was really just curious to see how many people are open to share their beliefs, as I find that in my culture (Western) people are very caged, and don't like to share

Fair comment. However, for those who believe in Almighty God, the tools at hand from the Bible can be discussed in a forum. It is a subject which most people are thinking about whether in a positive sense or a negative sense. The main aim is to make it a bit easier for the stamping of the secretary's inkhorn. :)

Is it any wonder? It doesn't matter what you believe, don't believe, or haven't decided about. There is always someone willing to argue that you are utterly wrong-headed, and to consider you a moron because of your decision. And there are people out there who would do worse, because we still live in a world where a few people will kill others and use religious differences as an excuse.
