Im considering incorporating my website and I will definitely be speaking with an accountant regarding the matter. I don't want to waste his time or mine so I want to know which questions to ask him and what information to have ready. I'm thinking yearly revenue, number of employees, location, etc - stuff like that. Any advice?
First of all, you aren't "incorporating a website", you are incorporating a business which owns the website. A website is an asset, not a business. This is something important to keep straight as I've seen this misused over and over and been on the receiving end of people not understanding it. I've bought websites from people before and had people think that I was in some way responsible for what the former owner contracted with them (in his name), because he owned the website at the time. But that is a whole other store. You need an attorney more than an accountant to form a corporation. Or, you could do it yourself. The accountant may have some ideas about which offers the best tax advantages, but an attorney is going to be better. Or, you could save some money and do a little research on your own and then use a service. I used The Company Corporation and bought one of their packages when I formed my LLC. You can just get the forms from the state and do it yourself, but I found that some of the extra stuff they did was helpful, and at the time I wanted it done quick and they were able to do it quick.
