What qualities do you look for in an affiliate network?

I am very interested in starting up a network founded upon integrity, trust, and that offers mutual benefit for affiliates and advertisers. I've been doing a lot of research about the big networks out there (CJ, Clickbooth, etc) and it seems there is some controversy surrounding them.

I posted this in the affiliate forums because I figured you would be the best people to ask in starting this new business! What do you look for in a quality network? And, what do you watch out for? (i.e. warning signs)

I truly appreciate your feedback and thanks for any responses.

As advertiser we look for quallity traffic, that means you really need to set up correct niches in the network.
traffic for underwear dont work on a E-book site for example, so send the correct traffic to the kind of sites they are looking for.
In simple words it is called "conversion" so if you have good conversion you will have a good network for advertisers

It is really great to get such direct feedback from you. Thanks JC-services, SouthamptonAngel, and David_M :)

Right now, for example, I am setting up an affiliate program for Gateau O Chocolat, a flourless, all-organic, gluten-free, chocolate cake that will be heavily marketed online. The owner of the company would like to give a percentage of each sale to the affiliate network that I have created (and obviously I want to reward the affiliates who are interested in this program!)

I have sought out several different affiliates/bloggers who specifically blog about chocolate and/or gluten-free recipes. I am hoping to make connections with those who are "in the market" so to speak and have them come on board as affiliates. I am looking for those affiliates who specifically cater to the luxury market, gluten-free market, and organic market (specifically - organic chocolate)

Is this a good example of expanding the niche for this particular market or do you know of better ways? I am just starting out, and I will recruit heavily for advertisers to find the affiliates who will work best for their business, product, or services.

Thanks again for the help and advice.
