What programs do I need for web design?

myself also newbie here, i would suggest u 2 go for html,css with text editor. all d coding being done by urself.
then go for something higher with javascript

 

Thanks for all of the tips. I went to w3schools and completed the HTML and CSS courses. I used Notepad++ for a little while and then found that I preferred to use Kompozer and edit the HTML by hand in the few instances that there was a problem. I have also been using GIMP. When I get access to more capital, I may go for Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
