I posted a thread awhile back about how it was disgusting how Norton Internet Security blocks adsense. Are there any other programs that block adsense like this? Also, is there some way google can get around it? I used to think that NIS was not used by many people, but I have seen quite a few of my friends running it and not even knowing. Oh, and lets all boycott norton internet security!
I think there is a firefox plug in that blocks em too. You can turn off JS in your browser and they won't display either.
I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Not enough people know about Adsense to bother looking for something to block it. And the people who knows enough about Adsense to block it would never click on Adsense ads to begin with.
My son's default install of Firefox blocks AdSense ads. He turned on ad blocking and it worked. Google's ad blocker does not block AdSense. Maybe Windows Vista will. Has anyone who has beta tested MSIE 7 noticed if this is the case? Or an option? Any ad blocker will be able to block AdSense. In time, that will be configured as an option and part of the default. Certainly, webmasters who abuse AdSense by tricking people into clicking on the ads are working hard to create a "need" which ad blockers will meet. Some people are accidentally blocking all AdSense by setting up theirs hosts file so the AdSense server is located at 127.0.0.1 I am referring to people who are worried about accidentally clicking on their own ads. The simple truth is as long as there are people who hate ads, Google's huggable image will not prevent people from equipping ad haters with the capacity to block AdSense.
The bad part is that programs like norton internet security blocks ads as a default option. The user never even knows.
I think its like a hacked plugin you gotta install. http://junk.waveride.net/adblockfilters.txt ^^^Webmasters enemey^^^ You log this in somewhere into your Firefox files and it blocks everything.
It's no hacked plugin, just an extension called Adblock, readily available from the mozilla extension site.
Still, I think we shouldn't lose too much sleep over this. Firefox is still relatively new and are used by only the web savvy (who, as mentioned, rarely clicks on Adsense ads). Plus, whenever Adsense blocking becomes too mainstream, I'm sure Google et al would come up with a way to get around it. After all, if our earnings suffer, so do theirs. And I don't foresee those Google boys letting something like "adsense block" stopping them from pursuing the almighty dollar.
I agree, I'd go as far as saying most users who download firefox won't pursue extensions unless they're told about them.
Yeah I use it. NoScript (amongst others with similar functionality). Blocks all JavaScript, Flash and Shockwave for a nice and clean browsing experience. When you do want to see it you can whitelist the domain, subdomain or temporarily allow it. If you are serious about serving ads, your website should not display AS when JS is disabled. Opt for an ad hosted on your server instead so you don;t end up with blank space.
