Just curious what sort of PR people can get to, without spending money on buying links and online advertising and such... It seems hard to get higher than PR4...

Do all of your backlinks have good anchor text?

Yep, almost all of them have funny pictures, funny pics and Now That's Humor. There are some random ones, most of mine are one-way to, if you view the link in my sig you'll see how I generate backlinks.

PR3, I've spent around $70 over 1.5 years on directory submissions, and done alot of link building myself. I believe I will hit PR4 \ 5 on the next update without spending another penny through general promotion that is free and that I can do myself.

How do you do this with a new website? I JUST created my website... what can I do to get a good page rank, so it ACTUALLY SHOWS UP in a Google search?

What are the steps you took?

Also, glendowney... what do you mean by "exchanged" in your post?

    THANKS!!!

I started a site in March and only did free advertising through here and mostly Free Directories. I got PR3 in the April Update. I sold the site and all the guy did was change the content I had on the site ( some good articles) into a blog and has not added anything to the site. I checked on the last update and it is now PR5. I checked backlinks and it looks like he did nothing since he bought the site in June. He put all my articles as blog posts the same day and never touched it again. So it is possible to achieve without spending money.

2.5 months PR 4 on a free Blogspot blog nonetheless. It's attainable, but I spent a lot of time getting free backlinks.

When you say promoted the site on free advertising through here how do you mean? in your sig? - I've always had doubts about putting my site in my sig on here so would like to know if you think this is a good idea, thanks.

PR4 in the recent update with social bookmarking. But I am concerning more about SERP than PR. Anyone here rank well (for competitive keyword or keyword you want to rank) without spending?
