What hack doe DP you use to limit user privileges until certain posts are met?

At Bloggeries Blog Forum I'm getting hit hard with tones of spamming scum.

I'd like to limit the ability to send PM's, Emails and most importantly not allow new members to post a live link until X posts are reached.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

There are a couple of ways you can do this.

The first one is a modification at vbulletin.org that limits new users so they can not post a link until they have 15 post. I know its there because I have seen it. I just dont feel like looking for it right now or else I would post a link.

The way I have it set up on my forum:

Create new group and test permissions.

Create promotion script based off post count. This moves the person from the registered users group to the second group. My promotions script cron job runs every 15 minutes.

Edit the registered users group and change their permissions so they can not have a signature, can not send PMs, can not download files, can not post calendar events,,,,, until they have 3 post in the forums. But this will not stop posting of links.

I looked at your forum and you are not using captacha, image verification or ReCaptcha - no wonder your getting spammed. If you enable any of those three, a lot of your spammer problems will stop. But I recommend ReCaptcha, that will really put an end to those spam bots.

This is the advice and the type of question I was looking for. I have had to lock down my forums PHPBB, VB and SMF so much That I am concerned the members my be compromised in the use of my forum.

I have had to moderate post ...use email confirmation and others. But I am looking for answers? what the big forum operators are doing about this problem ?

I have even had to cpanel Block IP's however this user is changing his ip... so much I may have to block a range of iP's... ??? what to do ???

It is sad the amount of spam for the little blue pill... and junk forum admins receive.
