What payment processing system to use for a freelance website?

    Hello everybody,

I am trying to start a freelance business like http://www.elance.com/ or http://www.getacoder.com/.

I have been studying their systems for a while to figure out what the core payment system is to enable their own Escrow system. (Escrow system allows keeping the money paid by buyer safely while the freelancer does his job to ensure that the latter would be paid only after his work is completed)

I've reached a first conclusion that such a website must be using an electronic wallet like Paypal or Moneybooker to hold the money on their website. The website then "internally" manages users' account. When the freelancer want to withdraw the money he earned, the website process the payment.

However I still have some doubts, indeed, I learnt how Paypal system is untrustworthy as I go through different topics of this forum. Does anybody know the real answer?
Do the freelance websites use an electronic wallet or a "real" bank account to keep the money of the users safe to do the Escrow thing?

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks

I believe they already "have management system to keep the money safe there so that they can use it to transfer to other member, and about paypal I think you should have a business account for this.I have experienced with rentacoder and I think since they use there "paypal business account "exhandra@......com"paypal will not giving them problem to transfer

oDesk supports PayPal, Moneybookers, Wire transfert, direct withdraw (US), and Payoneer prepaid Mastercard. It's the best frelance website in my opinion.

You need to have paypal business account with registered business.
    Its not a big task.
You can also email payoneer.com to partner with them.

To me the best could be the following:

I will not add PayPal because the payments can be rejected by "bad users" and you or your coders (who receive money) will be scr**ed..

HooPay: They have 19 currencies supported, multicurrency accounts, located in tax haven country, deposit with bank wire, credit card, exchanger, API digital signature to prevent spoofing attacks, sms alerts each time that you make transactions, login, etc. Send fax, sms...

Moneybookers: They have 20s currencies, no multicurrency accounts, located in UK, deposit via bank wire, credit card, API with md5 if I don't forget it, sms alerts too, send fax, sms too.

Alertpay: They have 10-15 currencies, located in Canada, deposit via credit card and bank wire, few types of accounts...

Liberty Reserve: Only usd and eur, exchanger deposit and withdrawal, located in tax haven too

Today I think they are the best choice, also Google Checkout, but you must remember that you will have support in Usa and UK only.

    Cheers

Sam - please check out Plimus. We are an ecommerce platform, and provide a complete payment system so that you can focus on running your business, while we manage the fraud, currency risk, integrations with local banks all over the world, etc. We have both receivable functionality (so customers can pay with Credit cards, paypal, checks, POs,) and we also can handle the disbursements for you as well. (Payoneer cards are available as a payout mechanism, as our wires, checks, etc.)
