My first post but I have been lurking for a while and have read a lot of the useful information here! I would like to have your opinions on what on-page factors contribute to a good quality link. I have read that too many outbound links will dilute the quality of the link and that the page topic should be related to the linked-to page. Are there any other factors do you think? Like keywords in the title or in close proximity to the link for example?
keywords in the page title is probably the most important as far as on-page factors go (DO YOU HEAR THAT, DIRECTORY OWNERS ??) followed by formatted/highlighted keywords in the page body (H1s H2s, bold, etc) but just bear in mind that off-page factors are significantly more important in determining the quality of a page.
Here's a few factors of the top of my head.... The topic of the pages relevent to your own site Position of the link (In content) close to the top of the article is better Low number of other outgoing links Number of relevent IBLs to the page Page ranked for your target keyword? Pagerank - general guide to the quality of the page, low importance
great list.. i would also add: your site's anchor should be a keyword of your page and it should also be bold
yeah, the words before the link are more important than the ones after... keywords should be there too
