Hi everyone, just new to the internet and the forum, my head is buzzing with all these names for everything.....im trying to grasp article writing to enhance my skills and ive heard this phrase being thrwon around... This may seem like a dumb thread but i really dont hav a clue
the main use for pinging is getting content published on sites like technorati quickly. you ping them when a new article is created so it is automatically added to their database. This increases seo visibility and traffic from the blog sites. Its a very useful thing for interesting websites. However, if your website is worthless then it will get you nowhere.

So if i had a wordpress site and i wrote an article a day (im new so it literally takes me that lol) how would i actually ping it..like what are the actions for pinging... im really sorry for the ones who are gritting their teeth with my silly questions but i really am stuck
Pinging is a an option in CMD to test if a host is reachable over an IP network. For example if I ping Google in CMD I get the IP of that site which is [66.102.11.99] with this IP I can visit google via the IP, All I do is enter the IP into the Address bar. People use this to get around Blocks at School and work, People also use it to DDoS a Site etc.
make sure you are not pinging too much on short span of time. it will be considered as spam and your url may get banned.
the auto ping on wordpress is sufficient in technorati. alot of pinging sites are pretty much worthless and not really worth waisting thought processes on. you should choose a few good ones and stick with those. in the wordpress admin there is an area where you enter xml rpc url for those services. Enter a few in there and when you publish an article it will auto ping and ur set for that.
If you have abilities to check your hosting log for visitor stats, you would be surprised the relationship between your pingings and SE spiders' crawling: the site is almost immediately visited by SEs, at least by googleBots, after you send a ping to google blog search.
If you have a wordpress site and want to explicitly inform other search engines/websites, then while adding new posts, you will find a section below the post box. The name of this section will differ as per the version of WP that you are using. Now in this section you can add as many URLs as you want to ping and then publish your post. The rest will be taken care by WP.
Yeah Pinging is something like you are reminding them [ technorati, Google blog search, etc etc] that you have pusblished a new article, so kindly add it in your database, that helps getting your pages indexed fast, and great for SEO aspects as well.
