At current there is nothing which can take away the shine from FB/Twitter. Orkut had its day but Facebook completely washed it off. Lets see if Twitter can attract FB fans and make them to follow it. Hmmm.. after Twitter I don't see any other social networking site to heat up the competition. May be MySpace could do some thing.

never heard of Orkut before reading this thread. But I gotta say I'm getting pretty tired of all of the different social media sites. It's like I spend more time updating my "status" than actually getting any work done.

FB is still light-years ahead of Twitter. The thing about FB is, is that it offers so many more options than Twitter, and really the main use of Twitter, is something that you can already do on FB with Status Updates (Though Twitter works better).

Twitter is better for business IMO, but FB is still good for business, connecting with friends, a place to keep all your pictures and videos, chat rooms, games, groups, I mean it just goes on and on.

FB is going to run into trouble though if they don't get their Privacy Policy/Security issues figured out, that is giving them some serious problems.

The next big thing is probably going to follow along the lines of chatroullete. A social networking site where you can get together with friends, but be able to talk and see them on webcam.

I think Google should buy Twitter. Twitter is a powerful source for organic, popular and relevant links, spam is pretty obvious. Thats also why you see live twitter feeds in some Google searches.

Something based on video streaming or augmented reality mainly because of internet infrastructure that evolved this decade.
Things started with youtube and something like Justin TV, Live Stream could be the next big thing.

Sokule is a good site but most of their members are in MLM so you would have to target that niche.

Orkut was very popular a few years ago in India. Now everyone is shifting to Facebook. And twitter is also slowly gaining popularity here. As far as i know Orkut will almost be gone in India in few years.

I think every social networking site has own territory area like in Asia orkut/TWT is more popular in Europe FB is more popular. We can not predict that what will be the next social site gain popularity. I think we have enough social sites that has every thing that we need.

Google Buzz is a recently launched application, yet it seems to be getting popular by the day.
