Hi! So I desided I would sell the items I crochet to the public.. but not online.. since an online store will take too much time.. Can you please give your opinions on the names below... Thanks so much. I need to order some business cards soon.. Busy Bee Crafts Bee Unique Simply Me Lucky Frog Crafts Butterfly Kisses Elegant Lifestyle
Here's my opinion... "Simply Me Lucky Frog Crafts Butterfly Kisses Elegant Lifestyle" I am not liking these at all..... They don't really say what your business does... except lucky frog crafts, but that doesn't sound good. It doesn't roll off the tongue. "Bee Unique" Same thing as above... Busy Bee crafts is the best of the bunch, and I assume you would have some kind of bumble bee in your logo. I like this one best... But before you decide on a name, make sure you have your target audience in mind... How much are you going to charge? If you are going to charge a lot per item and are going for more of a luxury brand, make sure your name reflects that. Selling a $200 blanked under Busy Bee Crafts might not work, but selling one under something intellectual like "Purple Rose - Designed by (Your name here)" might. Selling a $20 blanket under Busy bee Crafts would work to... This is just a huge jumble of information, but do you understand where I am coming from?
I would say this order and why Elegant Lifestyle - reflects exclusivity and luxury brand to offer. Busy Bee Crafts - talks to me about contry or "feel at home" style Bee Unique - good choice if you are able to invest some time or money in a marketing campaign Simply Me - this is to promote a casual style items. These two are not so appealing to my ears, the first sounds like associated to a lingerie brand and the second to wood handcrafts: Butterfly Kisses Lucky Frog Crafts As a home business I would start by selling per item, but working actively to sell by dozen overtime.
I think Bee Unique is pretty witty. It's definitely a cool name, but I'm not sure as to what you would be offering with a name like that. The ones that are the most descriptive (busy bee crafts and lucky frog crafts) have unappealing names. Unless it's intended for kids or something I don't know how well that would work. It would help to know what kind of products you plan to sell for me to decide the optimal name. -AudieMurphy
Name recognition is tough. You are doing your marketing by business card posting and/or personal sales I will suppose. I would suggest using your own name with either Crafts or Crochet as part of the name... ie. Honey's Home Crochet xxxxxxxxxx (product name). Since most folks will know who you are, you can give these out everywhere, and post them in local stores, craft fairs, etc. That way everyone will know who is doing the work and you get instant recognition in your local area. YMMV..
I agree with 2synapses Sometimes we get bogged down with the smaller things and forget the bigger picture. I was the same - I would spend hours trying to find a name for my business and in the end it would fail - but not because of the name. Nobody was ever unsuccessful because of the way they names their business. If people like YOU and if people like your products then they will visit again and make recommendations. Good customer service and good products is what you want. this will even be greater than pricing. People will pay more for a premium service. Of course, all this assumes that you are not going to be daft with the naming of your business either - a business called "recently soiled crochet" will not do you any favors. I can think of two great companies that made their fortunes via service as opposed to names - Amazon and Ebay. There are hundreds more.
Well, unless you are catering to a specific fetish group in adult biz areas. But we will assume not for the purposes of this discussion. The real issues will be your products, your delivery times, and your customers, not you name. If you can deliver quality product, on time, that your customers want, at a good price, you will be successful. Remember that you want to analyze your time/price and add in cost of materials. Don't sell too cheap or you won't want to keep doing it, but don't price yourself out of the market either. YMMV.
