    Link Baiting is some thing in which any great content from a website attracts lots of other webmasters and they willingly link to that content. According to Matt Cutts: Link Baiting is something interesting enough to catch peoples attention and backlinks as well because peoples want to link back to interesting content as well.

    Suppose you have a website related to web designing and you launches a great online tool for free that webmasters and designers can download from your site. Then it is something which deserves a link bait. You will see some good amount of links pointing to your site in short span of time.

    This can also be achieved by many other methods such as publishing some highly controversial article, informational hooks, free widget etc.

    Stephen082 is spot on here. The thing about link baiting is when you think of it as build great useful websites, it works really well, when you think of it as creating stupid or controversial things, it usually fall flat on it face. The web is full of stupid controversial things.

    It means to put something out there on your blog/website that will grab attention and people would want to talk about it on their own blogs/website while referring to your site through a link and hence creating links.

    Damn, guess me trying to keep that worm on the chain link doesn't help then eh?

    When I owned World Forum Poker I had a betting calculator that I offered for free that got me lots of links from other poker forums.
    The best thing was we held poker competitions for forum versus forum poker games. This was a great way to get links from many places. It worked well enough that PokerListings.com bought the site from me
