For those who may not know, Vista with SP1 will be the same codebase as Longhorn, ie Windows 2008. Microsoft are bringing back the convergent of technologies it had when Windows 2000 Server and Professional were around.

There will be many benefits to be seen in the workplace environment, especially security-wise.

As far as normal everyday users go, get the highest Vista you can afford and get a good graphics card, someone has already mentioned how cheap RAM is as well.

All in all, we will all end up using Vista, just as we did XP. The code base for the 2 is quite different, even more so when SP1 for Vista comes around.

I don't think I've ever seen a real Vista fan yet. Personally, I'm dreading having Vista forced on me by my college's laptop program. Also, I heard people are getting those "Vista only" games working perfrectly well on XP - which Microsoft had claimed was impossible.

What I really like about Vista is how you use the Start Bar for searching for programs instead of clicking through tons of menus in XP

I think Vista is just the next step for the OS once other companies get moving with DX10 than we will see M$ start tying to improve it so it can better manage resources once they have Competition out there that can make an OS that looks like there it may get them moving in the direction we need it to go.

Vista is much more stable then XP I think. Until now I didnt have to install any service pack like XP.
It wasnt nice of MS though not supporting legacy softwares.

I dig it. I run a lot of graphics programs and it seems to run a little faster than the same on my old XP machine.

To be honest, my experience with vista hasn't been pretty. A couple of the apps don't run, and the OS is a power hog. The only plus would be the awesome GUI.
