what makes people to like a directory? i have seen many people once they like a directory and they return often to pay. Just curious to hear!
I have no idea myself but i would guess something like being easy to use may be one thing that could appeal, others may return often because its their friends directory. Or maybe offering regularly updated something that they cannot resist. Or something free maybe, im not sure.
I give plenty of importance to 1. site graphics and design. 2. SEO friendly. 3. Decent PR of 5 4. Ease of use.
I think it also depends on what people are looking for. With niche directories, folks are often looking for targeted traffic. With general, I suspect PR is more of a goal.
* Design * Page Rank (Inner pages as well) * Traffic * Good nevigation and catagory structure * Payment options
i dont like to apply "like" to this case.. i like RR bikes, but wouldnt buy 1100RR coz i couldnt pay its price, the insurance, fuel, etc. and i cant make long travels with it because i dont feel comfortable after 50kms, so i dont get a return of my invest... ok, back to directories hehehe, sorry for the methaphor .. people likes good design but wants value for the money spent.
Design Quality service (fast reviews, short response time) PR Pricing Content (regularly updated) Not in a particular order, just five factors I consider to be of importance.
I guess maybe its similar to a good beer if you like the taste and the price offers value Then you will post another Review But sure its need to be user friendly, popular with a good design and a solid owner that promotes and supports the Directory 365/24/7
1. How the directory looks (clean, nice design, professional) 2. No "no-follow" links for listings 3. A PageRank of 3 or more 4. Pricing 5. Quality Service (good response time, polite and helpful, professional) 6. Good URL structure/SEO Generally if it looks like someone made it at home or from a script/site that cost them about $20, then people are kinda put off by it. Keep things clean and simple.
It depends. I was trying to cover everyone/everything (like small businesses etc). Not just SEO obsessed webmasters. lol
Well i am not that experienced or know much about SEO... but as for a general user.. i feel a directory should be clean, easy on eyes, and not cluttered with banner ads and animated gifs...
I like maintaining websites as a hobby. PR is one of the tasks of someone who would like to care for the website.
Rather easy really. People like a directory that: Is free or cheap to get a site listed Has a good PR Has a good design and ease of use Has good rankings in the search engines Has a good amount of backlinks Etc...
From my experience it would be like this (in order of importance): 1st-Page rank of 4+ (there are just way too many free directories at PR3-, so a PR4 seems to be the real minimum for folks to part with money for a listing). 2nd-Good value and payment options, I think visitors need to feel they are getting a good value for the money invested, so your price should be competitive. Fast approval times are important to get return submitters. 3rd-Unique and attractive design, easy to use (no registration). 4th-Good domain name, some bells and whistles (extra mods).
What makes me like: 1. The Owner 2. The SERPs and if i am seeing them there 3. Traffic 4. The Promotion to get those SERPs 5. Trust (which is extremely lacking these days) 6. Backlinks (not just from sponsored stuff but real backlinks on strong sites) 7. Owners who take initiative. what makes me dislike: 1. Owners full of Bologna about how great they are because they have 1 or 2 listings in every category(and to boot, they didn't even add them themselves) 2. Owners who cry constantly. (this can be one month this way, and the next month that way) 3. QBC owners who remove paid listings. 4. Followers and NOT leaders. 5. Owners who downtalk other peers because of jealousy. (it happens a lot here in PMs) If I can think of anything else I'll add it later.
