To be honest, link exchange letters don't work well any more. I delete them as soon as I get them, and so do most of the fellows over here, best thing to do is visit the site you are interested and look around for anything like "trade links here" or "your link here". If the site doesn't show anything like that, then don't piss them off sending a link exchange email they didn't ask for.

You mean to say if the site has something like this, only then one should send them letters?

OK, but my post is about what should i write in the letter so as to maximize my chances of getting a link.

I have found more success to just get the phone number off the whois and give them a call.

Fryman is right... people will just discard your email most of the time.

Not sure how economical this would be, i reside in india and making calls all over the world for a link exchange does not seems to be a good idea, considering long distance call rates.

Maybe join some service like linkmarket.net? That is a place where people interested in trading links gather, so it is much better than sending emails to people who are just not interested in link trading.

True if you mean to send such letters to companies who have absolutely no indication about link exchange at their sites. No point in sending such. A good targeted link exchange letter works perfect though.

I just e-mail out mass letters that ask for a simple link exchange and briefly explain the site. As most people in the fishing niche aren't very computer literate I don't bother to include terms like backlinks or pr. I just title the e-mail with there name or company name and then just past the message. I'd say I get a return rate of 1/6 to 1/10. I try to do 10 a night. As far as the letter go heres mine though I don't believe its very good.

By the way if anyone wants to exchange links, send me a pm. :D
