Well, nobody here seems to have anything to post that is very useful, or that isn't copied and pasted from somewhere else, so I will add some good advice for you

As someone who has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars from Facebook applications, I will tell you that there are only 2 key ingredients to a successful Facebook application.

1. Having a solid and effective revenue model.
2. Driving lots of traffic/users to it.

Obviously, the money that your Facebook application earns is coming from people using the app, without users, you will not make any money. For this reason, knowing how you'll market you app should be as much a part of your plan as deciding what kind of app to make. Of course, before you start sending users to your app, you also need to make sure that your application will make money when users hit it. This falls into the 'picking an app' category...

I will recommend using a combination of direct payments and a CPA/Offer Wall network like Super Rewards or Offerpal to monetize your app primarily. You can also add standard banner ads to your app as well if you'd like. Typically, games and RPG apps will perform the best. Obviously it's hard to integrate the Offer Wall into a quiz or fan club application and to make it so that users will want to earn currency in the app, these types of apps simply can't be monetized that way... So games and RPGs with some depth and re-playability will earn much more in this regard
