I've been checking out the whole Directory thing lately. And I think I understand the basic idea behind them. What I've been wondering about is are there certain guidelines a site must follow to be considered a directory? What makes a directory more than a fancy glorified "Links" page? Can I just slap a list of sites up and call it a directory? Now before anyone jumps to conclusions, the reason why I ask is because I actually considered doing something similar to a directory in a effort to get backlinks for my site, http://nosaintshistory.com. Now I see there is a whole system in place to achieve what I want. But how far do I need to go to actually make it a directory as opposed to a collection of football related sites?
Categorized links make it a directory whereas a bunch of uncategorized links is a link farm. Maybe you should try a football niche directory.
If you're trying to build a niche sport directory, try visit here http://www.indexudirectory.com/sports/ for reference, my favorite is http://www.baseball-links.com for sport directory.
As long as there is categorized list of category it is called directory. No matter how strict or easy they approve every listings.
A directory doesn't require recipricol links - if it does it's a link exchange. A directory is basically a collection of outbound links. These may be sourced by the directory owner or submitted by site owners.
There are no easier explainations on what is a directory... Also a directory is one of the way to find content on internet, a directory owner should not be afraid to list a lots of links even in the same category since we do that for users (or PR)
That does help me out. A football niche directory does sound like a good idea. I could separate them by teams, fantasy, whatever. Thanks, that gives me something to think about.
